20 children ‘graduate’ from latest MEND programmes
12th August 2011
Jubilee Hall Trust’s latest MEND programmes finished on 22nd July. MEND offers children aged between 7-13 an opportunity to learn more about healthy eating and exercise in a structured 10-week programme. The programmes ran at Carlton school in Camden and the Jubilee Hall Trust’s Colombo Centre in Southwark, and all 20 of the children showed positive changes in 7 out of the 8 MEND indicators which include waist circumference, body mass index, hours spent taking part in physical activity and knowledge of nutrition.
The final ‘reward’ trips were a ride on the London Eye and a ten-pin bowling outing and all of the families thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. As one mum said: ‘The good news is that we have been able to apply the MEND advice into our lifestyle and we have noticed a huge improvement all around’.
These were the last of Jubilee Hall Trust’s Big Lottery funded programmes, but with 7 children on a waiting list in Camden, the charity will be bidding for additional funds to continue this valuable work.
