Colombo Community Centre in the heart of Southwark hosted its first outdoor ZUMBA class which combines Latin and International music with a fun and effective workout system. The outdoor class attracted over 47 people on the first day and is scheduled for the next 6 weeks.
Centre Manager Ashley Hargreaves-Smith said ‘using our outdoor spaces such as tennis courts for classes is a unique and an amazing experience for our members. It promotes physical activity to the wider community and engages with so many people. People shouldn’t think getting fit is just about the gym; it should be about fun, enjoyable activity’
Lenny Stephens the studio coordinator (who promotes and manages the classes) felt ‘It was time to take exercise outside of the gym environment. Not only did we have an impact on many of our members but passers-by stopped and watched. If we can engage with those put off by the typical gym image we will better promote the health and well-being of our local community’
At a time when many local leisure centres are competing with budget gyms many members look to their existing clubs for added value. Our unique partnership with GLL (Gym-London) delivers not only affordable monthly memberships but unique and interesting ways to get more people more active more often.
